Burglary suspect shot by resident in Oxford

OXFORD – One burglary suspect is in the hospital and another on the run after residents confronted them apparently in the middle of their crime.
Police got a call at 11:46 a.m. Friday reporting a burglary in progress with shots fired, said Oxford Police Chief Mike Martin.
“A man and a woman had come home and noticed a suspicious vehicle at their back patio,” Martin said.
One intruder reportedly came out of the back door toward the residents.
“The woman opened fire on the intruder, and the intruder ran off,” Martin said. “The second intruder said, ‘Don’t shoot, don’t shoot,’ and the woman didn’t shoot, but he ran off, too.”
Officers set up a perimeter around the area, and a K-9 unit found the first suspect, who’d received non-life-threatening wounds to both legs. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi and is expected to face charges.
