Applebee’s rolls out Sports Zone

TUPELO – Chris Reich thinks having eight televisions, including five 52-inch monsters, will have strong appeal for sports fans who want to catch up with their favorite teams and players.
And if they’re hungry and thirsty, even better.
Reich, manager of Applebee’s in Tupelo, said the new Sports Zone won’t take away from the family-friendly atmosphere of the restaurant.
“It’s going to be partitioned off, but the Sports Zone is where we wanted to create a place where folks can come in, sit down, maybe have an adult beverage if they’d like and have the opportunity to watch six different channels on eight TVs all about sports,” he said.
The Tupelo Applebees is one of 59 franchised stores belonging to Quality Restaurant Concepts LLC, which has locations scattered from east Tennessee to the Gulf Coast.
Tupelo was the first restaurant in the four-store region that includes Starkville, Columbus and Meridian to introduce the Sports Zone concept.
Reich said all the stores in the company eventually will adopt the idea. He also said that the restaurant will have special promotions tied to the Sports Zone.
