TUPELO – Wayne Averett is leaving the Community Development Foundation to become a financial planner.
Averett’s last day is April 29. Averett, CDF’s director of entreprenuership, also is in charge of the operations of the Renasant Center for IDEAs
He will be a financial planner with Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial. He’ll be based in Tupelo, but he’s still working out the details of an office.
“I’ve always had an interest in financial planning and working with business owners really sparked it,” he said. “I always thought after dealing with the folks coming in here that I’d never have the guts to do what they do, and now I’m doing it. It’s really exciting.”.
Orlando Pannell, CDF’s director of community development, will take over responsibility for Renasant Center operations after Averett leaves.
Pannell will stay in the job at least until CDF moves into its new building next to the Renasant Center, said Jennie Bradford Curlee of CDF.
The new building in Fairpark is slated to be done late this summer, she said.
Averett has been with CDF since 2005. His exit comes after the recent departure of Martha Swindle, who was the administrative manager for the Renasant Center.
Now she’s a business support representative for TVA’s Mississippi district.
“It’s kind of funny how that came up at the same time,” said Averett, who called it a coincidence. “We have 12 clients now and 10 successful graduates. It’s a really good time for a transition.”
