TUPELO — BancorpSouth Inc. said Thursday it has increased its focus on assisting small- to mid-sized businesses throughout its eight-state market area amid the slow economic recovery.
BancorpSouth Bank’s initiative will aim to help small businesses to manage their cash flow and maximize their bottom line.
“Our small business focus is important due to the large number of small businesses and entrepreneurs who are bearing much of the brunt of the national economic downturn,” said Gordon Lewis, BancorpSouth’s vice chairman for community banking
BancorpSouth offers next-day credit to small businesses that open a merchant services account with the bank, along with a limited time offer of up to $200 of free processing services on credit card purchases. Also, for a limited time, the bank is offering a $100 cash reward to small business owners who transfer their business checking account to BancorpSouth. They will also receive $50 if they transfer their personal accounts.
BancorpSouth Bank operates 314 commercial banking, mortgage, insurance, trust and broker/dealer locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas.
Shares of BancorpSouth slipped 16 cents to $18.94 in afternoon trading.
