Both Shoney’s in region now closed

TUPELO – Shoney’s has now closed both of its restaurant locations in Northeast Mississippi.
It’s unclear whether the restaurants in Tupelo and Corinth will reopen.
The Tupelo store closed May 13, and the company at the time said it was planning to renovate the location. A corporate news release said the company didn’t have a completion date for the restaurant near the intersection of North Gloster Street and McCullough Boulevard.
In the same May 16 press release, Damon Davoudpour with Shoney’s said the company was “moving forward as quickly as possible” with the renovations.
Yet, the store appears to have been virtually abandoned. The parking lot has been empty and the grass has grown tall. Neighbors report that they have not seen work crews at the property since the week after the restaurant closed.
The Corinth location, which closed within the last two weeks, now looks like it is facing a similar fate. The phone rings with no answer or recorded message and the signage has been taken down at the restaurant.
Both restaurants have been removed from the list of locations on Shoney’s website.
Repeated calls and messages to Shoney’s corporate office in Nashville were not returned.
