Cooper Tire earnings impacted by higher costs

FINDLAY, Ohio – Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. reported first-quarter earnings of $16 million, a $4 million increase from the year-ago period.
The company, which has a manufacturing plant in Tupelo, said net sales rose 20 percent to $906 million. Operating profit fell $1 million to $32 million.
Higher raw materials costs, totaling $164 million, contributed to the decline.
