Fleischer headlines annual forecast conference

By NEMS Daily Journal

TUPELO – Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer will be the headline speaker at the annual Northeast Mississippi Economic Forecast Conference.
The event will be Tuesday at the BancorpSouth Conference Center, starting at 9 a.m.
The Community Development Foundation, area banks and Journal Inc. are sponsoring the conference.
Fleischer will tell a few “light-hearted” stories about his time in the White House, the CDF said.
Naturally, he’ll also comment on politics.
Fleisher, who is a contributor on CNN and runs a communication company, was President George W. Bush’s press secretary from January 2001 to July 2003.
Joining Fleischer on the speaking list are Brent Christensen, the executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority, and David Copenhaver, chairman of the CDF.
Copenhaver will get the conference started at 9:15 a.m. with a look at economic trends in the region. Copenhaver is the recently retired vice president of administration for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi in Blue Springs.
At 9:30 a.m., Christensen will give his take on the state economy. Christensen was named MDA’s head last May. He had been president and CEO for 10 years at the Gaineville (Fla.) Area Chamber of Commerce.
Fleischer is expected to hit the stage at 10:15 a.m., and will follow his remarks with a question-and-answer session at 11 a.m.
In addition, the conference will recognize Bill Johnson, who recently was named CEO of the Tennessee Valley Authority.
