Gentiva buys North Mississippi Hospice

OXFORD – Atlanta-based Gentiva has purchased North Mississippi Hospice of Oxford.
Gentiva provides hospice and home-health services from 420 locations nationwide.
Michele McCay founded the Oxford firm in 2002 to provide medical care for patients with terminal illnesses in their homes and in institutions. It serves patients and their families in Lafayette and several nearby counties from its headquarters on Skyline Drive in Oxford.
“We think (the sale) is a great thing,” she said. “Sometimes when patients are referred to us and they’re not suited to hospice care, now we can refer them to the home health side of Gentiva.”
McCay said the purchase contract calls for her to serve two more years as a consultant.
“I feel like the excellence that I’ve pursued since founding the company is only going to be enhanced,” she said.
McCay added that the current staff and location will be remain in place and that patients and their families should notice little day-to-day difference in the services provided.
“As far as referral sources are concerned, everything is the same,” she said.
Gentiva’s acquisition of North Mississippi Hospice is the company’s third this quarter.
Earlier this month, it bought Washington-based Family Home Care Corp. In July, Gentiva acquired Indiana-based Advocate Hospice.
