HOMEGROWN: A Cook’s Place

A Cook’s Place
Jody Lehman worked in medical sales in her previous career. In April 2004, she followed her dream of having her own business. She opened A Cook’s Place, a specialty kitchen store that sells cooking and gourmet food items.
“I love gadgets,” Lehman said. “I love talking about food. This marries both of them.”
Specialty ground coffee is a best-seller in the store. She has 30 to 40 roasts and a loyal customer base throughout the year. The store has a customer rewards program dubbed the Coffee Club.
A Cook’s Place also sells a house brand of extra virgin olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar.
“We buy it in bulk and we’ll bottle it for you,” she said.
The store also buys specialty salts in bulk and sells smaller sizes to customers.
Other popular items include specialty kitchen cleaners and soaps, cookware, cutlery, kitchen tools, linens, barbecue items, pottery, loose-leaf tea and baking items. The store carries Viking cookware, Le Creuset cookware and Wusthof and Kershaw cutlery.
In addition to retail, Lehman also does cooking demonstrations and classes at her store. Plus, she hosts birthday parties and cooking classes for kids. The class schedule is available on the store’s website, ACooksPlace.com.
