When a family pet gets sick, a trip to the local animal hospital is usually an order. However, the staff at Amory Animal Hospital sees more than just Fido and Fluffy.

Amory Animal Hospital is a full-service, mixed-animal veterinary hospital.

“We’ve seen everything from guinea pigs to alpacas. We even operated on a monitor lizard who had fatty liver disease,” said Dr. Pat Hidalgo.

Drs. David and Pat Hidalgo took over Amory Animal Hospital in January 1994 after hearing it might be available through information gathered at a convention attended by David’s father, also a veterinarian.

The couple was working in Baton Rouge at the time, but after checking it out, they bought the hospital and settled into Monroe County life.

Amory Animal Hospital is one of only three animal hospitals in north Mississippi accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, the only companion animal organization that accredits small animal hospitals throughout the country.

Two more veterinarians, Drs. Eric Halbach and Elena Owen, also are on staff to see patients.

Amory Animal Hospital sees patients by appointment as well as walk-ins. They provide boarding and grooming in addition to other services.
