HOMEGROWN: China Capital

Lisa Chen and her husband, Yong, have been in the restaurant business since 1983.
In 2000, they bought China Capital, which Lisa Chen said has been open for about 30 years.
The full-service Chinese restaurant specializes in Mandarin, Cantonese and Szechuan food. Lunch and dinner customers can order off the menu or eat from the buffet.
China Capital also does a healthy amount of take-out business.
Yong Chen does the cooking, while Lisa Chen works out front greeting and helping customers. She eats at the restaurant three times daily, with her favorites being the vegetables on the buffet.
“I never cook,” said Lisa Chen. “My husband cooks. I just eat.”
The Chens, who are both from Shanghai, are active owners and are at the restaurant when it is open. They have employees to help them, but Lisa Chen wants to be a visible owner.
“We usually work six and a half days a week,” she said.
She said the customers keep her going. She has some diners who came as little kids and are now in high school.
“We enjoy our customers,” she said.
