HOMEGROWN: Earnest B’s Restaurant

Earnest B’s Restaurant has grown over the years. The business started in 2008, when Earnest B. Morgan was selling cars and needed to supplement his income. He started cooking one day a week.
He spent a year in transition until he was cooking full time. He’s also a pastor with Healing and Restoration Ministries.
The business continued to grow, and Morgan’s wife, Cicely, quit her job to work at the restaurant full time. The business originally was across the street from its current location inside the Heritage Inn and Suites and seated 12 people.
The new location has seating for 75 people, plus it is open six days a week for lunch and dinner, in addition to catering jobs.
The Morgan children also help out. Tyler is 13 and Taylor is 11.
The restaurant is known for its homemade sweet heat barbecue sauce, which is a recipe from Morgan’s mother.
The most popular items on the menu are Texas-style ribs, pulled pork barbecue, beef brisket, smoked chicken, loaded barbecue nachos and loaded barbecue baked potatoes.
“You ain’t never had barbecue until you’ve had Earnest B’s,” Morgan said.
Cicely Morgan encourages customers to call ahead because items sell out.
