Advice: “When I dreamed of opening my own business, I had no idea that I would work as hard or as long as I do. It’s not the fun and games that I thought it was. It’s a lot of hard work, but I love it.”
Erica Holloway’s dream always was to own a clothing store. In September 2006, her parents helped make her dream a reality.
The University of Mississippi graduate wanted to open her women’s clothing boutique in Oxford, but her dad challenged her to give her hometown of Pontotoc a chance.
“And here we are, almost six years later, still in Pontotoc,” she said.
Ella Ivy Boutique sells clothes for women. It carries jewelry, jeans, tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes and purses. It’s known for its dresses. The store also emphasizes school-appropriate and work-appropriate tops.
“I feel like my store is a reflection of my personality,” she said. “It’s very bohemian and very vintage.”
The boutique carries sizes extra small to large.
Next door, Holloway and her mother, Jenene Sullivan, in 2010 opened Ivy Kate Boutique, a store that caters to infants, children and pre-teens. The store focuses on girls, but it also has boys clothes.
Holloway also offers free personal shopping and outfit consultations in her store. She helps customers buy outfits for school, work or trips and sends them home with checklists for what to wear.
