Debi Thomas is the cooking maven behind Hammer’s Wings. She got her start cooking wings for her large, extended family.
“It took eight years to perfect the sauce,” said husband, Andre´ “Hammer” Thomas. “Eventually, she showed me how to do it.”
In September 2002, the couple opened Hammer’s Wings on North Gloster Street.
They have expanded to other sauces and dry rubs too: hot, mild, woowee hot, lemon pepper, garlic pepper, honey hush, soul seasoned, honey barbecue and sweet and sour.
The Thomases use their own recipes for the sauces.
The wings come with celery, carrots, onions and ranch or blue cheese dressing.
The restaurant has several tables, but the majority of the business is for take-out orders. Hammer’s also does catering, and it plans to start delivering orders this summer.
In addition to wings, the business also serves catfish plates, fried dills, chicken tenders and homemade buffalo potato chips.
