At the Longhorn Fish and Steakhouse in Becker, diners are greeted by the hundreds of names of satisfied customers scribbled across the outside walls. But the restaurant’s charm doesn’t end there.
The inside of the restaurant is sprawled with Western decor. Behind the front desk, there are gobs of celebrity photos, including Dolly Parton’s, with personalized wishful greetings. Across one wall is a mural of a Western landscape, and on another sits a giant head of a longhorn.
Owners Randy and Cindy Harmon opened the Longhorn in 1995. After Randy Harmon caught the “bug” of the restaurant business, he and his wife decided to open their own.
“I wanted to do it on my own, and I thought ‘I’ll just do it then,’” he said.
The restaurant’s name was inspired not only by the herds of cattle that roam behind it, but by how Randy Harmon answered the phone.
He would greet callers with a different type of cattle name such as “angus,” and gauge their reaction. Answering with “Longhorn” got the biggest response.
The Longhorn has many specialties. One of its claims to fame is its 16-ounce rib eye steak. The restaurant’s “All You Can Eat Steak, Fish and Shrimp” or better known as the “SFS” is another favorite. Longhorn also offers a Thursday special.
The Harmons, including their children, Trent and Randi Kathryn, all work at the restaurant.
