The Vinson family in May 2008 bought Uniforms Unlimited on Nelle Street in Tupelo. The business had been open for more than 30 years, according to Kay Vinson.
She went into business with her husband, Steve, and their two sons, Adam and Evan.
The business was renamed to Scrubs & More and moved to West Main Shopping Center. It also expanded from 1,300 square feet to the current 10,000 square feet, which the Vinsons say makes it the largest scrub store in the state.
The Vinsons also have Scrubs & More stores in Corinth; Tuscumbia, Ala.; and Florence, Ala.
The stores specialize in carrying medical apparel for men and women in sizes XXS to 5X. Scrubs & More also carries scrub pants in regular, petite and tall.
Plus, the store offers alteration services and in-house monogramming and embroidering.
In addition to scrubs, the store carries jewelry, purses, socks, medical attire and shoes designed for 12-hour work days. Some shoes are basic, while others are fashion-forward.
Scrubs & More stocks scrubs in dozens of different colors, fabrics, prints and shapes. It also carries the Koi designer brand, which makes scrubs with different necklines, sleeves and top shapes.
“What most people think of in scrubs are the old hospital green,” said Adam Vinson. “Scrubs are really fashion-forward and mainstream now.”
The store also discounts 20 percent off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price in order to compete with Internet prices.
