TUPELO – Cristina’s International Cuisine is slated to open Friday in the former Shogun building on North Gloster Street in Tupelo.
Cristina Green is the owner. This is the Venezuelan native’s first restaurant. Green said she has sold haircare products, but she’s always wanted to own a restaurant.
“This is my dream,” she said. “This is my passion to cook.”
The building at 725 N. Gloster Street has been vacant since Shogun, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar, closed in May.
The past two months, Green’s worked to renovate the interior of the restaurant. The bamboo accents are gone, along with the hibachi table and the sushi bar. She’s added a large meat roaster.
Green plans to be open for lunch and dinner. Her menu boasts food dishes from five continents. Food categories include soups, sides, sandwiches and salads.
The international menu includes Brazilian, French, Italian, Spanish, Thai, Peruvian, Mediterranean, Mexican, Japanese and Venezuelan cuisine.
She hopes her dishes, such as paella and falafel, will help her stand out from other restaurants in Tupelo.
“People like to eat different food,” she said.
