TUPELO – The distinct smell of barbecue will be wafting across north Tupelo in the spring, when Jimmy’s Rib Shack opens in Tupelo Commons, the retail development off North Gloster Street that’s home to Best Buy, Ashley Furniture HomeStore, Hancock Fabrics and others.
The Corinth-based restaurant, which opened in 1996 and features ribs and barbecue, plans to open by the first of February, said co-owner Wayne Price.
“We’re doing dirt work on it now,” said Price. “We’ve been looking at Tupelo the last four years.”
The restaurant will seat 160 to 172 diners.
The Rib Shack slow cooks and smokes its “dry” ribs and barbecue pork, chicken and tenderloin with hickory wood.
Other menu items include fried and baked catfish, hamburgers, hamburger steak, ribeyes and desserts.
The restaurant will join a cluster of eateries in the immediate vicinity, including Chili’s Grill & Bar, The Olive Garden, Wendy’s, Abner’s Famous Chicken Tenders, Lenny’s Sub Shop and Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi.
The Corinth Rib Shack, located off Highway 72 east, serves about 5,000 customers a week.
