The specialty retailer is vacating the mall for the shopping center anchored by Kohl’s.

TUPELO – Kirkland’s is moving out of The Mall at Barnes Crossing.
The home decor retailer has signed a lease for a 7,500-square-foot space at the King’s Crossing shopping development, which is anchored by Kohl’s and Ross.
Kornel Romada, a leasing agent with The Woodmont Co., which owns King’s Crossing, said the lease was signed last week.
Kirkland’s will occupy a space near Maurices in the shopping center.
Tripp Sullivan, Kirkland’s corporate spokesman, said the target opening date for the new location is in June. He said the mall store would be open month to month until the new one opens.
Sullivan didn’t have details about any changes for employees.
And, Jeff Snyder, general manager of The Mall at Barnes Crossing, said he “hasn’t heard a word” about Kirkland’s moving.
“It wouldn’t surprise me, but I don’t know anything about it,” Snyder said.
Snyder said he wouldn’t be shocked because Kirkland’s as a company is moving toward being a strip center tenant with outside access. Indeed, Sullivan said at the end of last year, 208 of the company’s 299 stores were off-mall locations.
Snyder said if Kirkland’s does move, it would mean the mall officials would “have another space to market to the tenants we are bringing in.”
The mall this month confirmed men’s retailer JoS. A. Bank would become a tenant. It’s part of the multi-million dollar renovations project that also brought in Coldwater Creek, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Barnes amp& Noble.
