The state’s economic development agency named Marlo Dorsey its new chief marketing officer.
She begins Dec. 3, and she will lead MDA’s marketing and communication efforts.
Dorsey replaces Melissa Medley, who left in August 2011.
Dorsey comes to Mississippi Development Authority from Jones County Junior College, where she has been the college’s vice president of marketing for seven years.
At JCJC, she has managed a team responsible for the college’s publications, websites and public relations efforts. JCJC has received numerous statewide awards for its work in marketing and public relations while the team was under her direction.
Before joining JCJC, Dorsey worked for 10 years as chief executive officer of Cybergate Internet Services.
A start-up Internet company founded in 1996, Cybergate offered Internet access, website and data services to the Pine Belt region until it was sold in 2008.
Dorsey was the first chairwoman of the Economic Development Authority of Jones County, a position she held after serving as a board member for six years.
During her term as chairwoman, the EDA of Jones County worked with MDA, JCJC, the city of Ellisville and the University of Southern Mississippi to help bring GE Aviation’s second Mississippi manufacturing facility to the Howard Technology Park in Ellisville.
Dorsey is a broadcast journalism graduate from Louisiana State University, and she has an MBA in executive management from Canyon College.
