CORINTH – A number of well-wishers turned out Friday afternoon at the Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau to welcome Christy Burns to her new position as executive director.
It was Burns’ third day on the job, and she acknowledged that moving into a new role has a steep learning curve.
CVB board member Danny Timmons offered a few words of welcome.
He also acknowledged the contributions of temporary office administrator Anne Thompson in helping the board, five of whose members have been in place only since January, become acclimated to their roles and responsibilities. The board also presented Thompson with pottery gifts as a gesture of thanks.
Among the guests at the reception to welcome Burns were Alcorn County Board of Supervisors President Lowell Hinton, Corinth Mayor Tommy Irwin, Crossroads Arena Executive Director Tammy Genovese and arena board members, Alcorn County Welcome Center supervisor Sherry Brown, Chili Cook-off committee members, Green Market volunteers, museum volunteers and many others.
Burns comes to the position from Mississippi Polymers, where she had been accounting manager since 2005. She also previously owned a downtown Corinth business, Waldron Street Market.
She has been on the board of Main Street Corinth since 2006, working to promote and organize downtown festivals. Burns also was a member of Junior Auxiliary of Corinth as the organization conducted programs to help the children of Alcorn County.
