Presley asks to extend small biz rate incentives

JACKSON – Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley is asking Mississippi’s major electric and gas utilities to extend Small Business Rate Incentives for another year. Incentives provided by Entergy Mississippi, Mississippi Power Company, Atmos Energy, CenterPoint Energy and Wilmut Gas & Oil Company are set to expire Dec. 31.

More than 1,000 small businesses have saved more than $700,000 in overhead costs with the program, he said.

In a letter to each company’s CEO, Presley urged the utilities to continue the successful programs, which provide for reduced rates, waived security deposits and encouragement of development of vacant buildings, through the end of 2014.
