TUPELO – It’s been a month since Silver Airways began service, but hiccups in the reservation system haven’t been resolved, and potential passengers are frustrated and going elsewhere.
The major bone of contention: They’re not able to go to Delta Air Line’s website and book flights, as Silver had promised.
To be fair, Delta’s site wasn’t working a month ago, but Silver officials said they hoped to have it resolved by this month.
So far, no luck.
“It is so frustrating,” said Bob Hajeck, who said he and his wife used to fly at least once a month from Tupelo Regional Airport. “You can’t do Delta, you can’t go through Silver and the airport site takes you all over the place. It’s awful.”
Silver took over air service from Delta, and like Delta, Silver is being paid a subsidy to provide 18 round-trip flights a week to Atlanta. Officials had hoped for a seamless transition, with passengers able to go to Delta’s or Silver’s websites to book flights.
But compatibility issues have thrown a wrench into the plan.
“I’ve spoken to Delta and they are working through what they can to get it done,” said Tupelo Regional Airport Executive Director Josh Abramson. “It’s not all a Delta thing or Silver thing. But all systems are proprietary and different, and so they’re trying to work through all of that.”
Abramson said the best portal to book a flight from Tupelo to Atlanta is at the airport’s website at flytupelo.com. Clicking on the quicktrip.com link will show several flights passengers can use. But passengers like Hajeck said he didn’t have the time or inclination to scroll through various sites to find the flight he wants. Now he’s decided to book flights out of Memphis.
“I feel bad. … I want to fly out of Tupelo,” he said.
Abramson is as frustrated as anyone, waiting for Silver and Delta to resolve their issues.
“It’s been a work in progress,” he said, adding that he’s not sure when the systems will be integrated and working.
