Tupelo wins state Main Street award

TUPELO – Tupelo’s annual “Wine Downtown” event was honored Tuesday as the best retail promotion in the state.
The Mississippi Main Street Association hosted its annual awards meeting Tuesday at the Old Capitol Inn in downtown Jackson.
The winners included the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, which puts on the Wine Downtown event. The ticketed event has sold out both years it’s been held. At Wine Downtown, retailers and downtown tenants offer wine tastings and food pairings to ticket holders. The event wraps up with a party on the rooftop at Park Heights.
Calhoun City and Belinda Stewart Architects took home the award for the best public historic rehabilitation project for the Calhoun City Hall.
Water Valley Main Street won the state’s best creative fundraising project for the “Come As You Aren’t” costume and dance party.
Water Valley also took home the best special event award for the second annual Downtown Studio Art Crawl.
MMSA has 50 active Main Street communities.
