TUPELO – The United Way of Northeast Mississippi is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations that wish to become a United Way agency.
The deadline is Oct. 30.
If accepted, the organization will receive financial support from the United Way. The United Way currently supports 61 agencies, including The Salvation Army, SAFE, Girl Scouts, Regional Rehabilitation Center, the American Red Cross, the Boy Scouts, the Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels.
Groups seeking membership must meet a specific health and human services need that is not duplicated by an existing United Way agency.
They also must have tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with the Internal Revenue Service and be registered as nonprofit with the Mississippi Secretary of State.
In addition, an eligible group must be governed by a functioning local volunteer board of directors, which meet at least quarterly. Also, agencies must be fiscally accountable and adhere to nondiscriminatory policies and practices.
For an application, contact Shelia McCool, director of finance and funds distribution for United Way, at 213 W. Main St., Suite 110, or by calling (662) 841-9133.
