GRENADA – A newsprint mill in Grenada will shut down for a month beginning May 11.
General Manager Wade Taylor says the plant was temporarily shut down in April. It reopened Friday to fill 10 days of orders.
Taylor says it will shut down from May 11 to June 11.
The AbitibiBowater facility employs about 200 people. The company is the largest producer of newsprint in the world. The plant opened in Grenada in 1989.
Taylor says each employee will be working one week throughout the month, with the rest of the time on temporary layoff status. He says a maintenance crew will remain on the job.
This is the third temporary suspension for the Grenada plant since January. AbitibiBowater filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April.
