Wicks n' More founders step in

After going into liquidation last fall, candle maker Wicks n’ More is back in business.
Company creators and founders Beckey Neal and her daughter, Kim Neal, have opened a new company that produces the popular hand-poured pillar candles in a small facility a few miles from the company’s old location in Mantachie.
Officially, the company is called Design Wicks, a division of Wicks n’ More. A small retail store is attached to the facility, which is located next to Mooreville Rental on Highway 371.
In an e-mail to the Daily Journal, Beckey Neal wrote “Yes, Wicks n’ More is back again … after the company decided to dissolve its operations in Mantachie, my daughter Kim and I (the original creators and founders) made a decision to continue our candlemaking on a smaller scale.”
The Neals founded the company in 1999. The company was sold to a Houston, Texas-based investment group in 2006. It announced the liquidation in October, blaming fewer retailers, rising fuel costs and increased raw materials prices for the move.
Beckey Neal said her company has finalized the purchase of all of Wicks n’ More’s remaining assets and “we are continuing both retail and wholesale operations” under her and her daughter’s leadership.
