TUPELO – Work to repair a portion of the old runway and taxiway at Tupelo Regional Airport is scheduled to begin today.
Last week, the City Council approved spending up to $107,675 to repair a 200-by-50-foot damaged section of the old runway. The section will be replaced by 12 inches of reinforced concrete. Work is expected to take 12 days.
The section to be repaired is used by some airport tenants. Among the tenants is Universal Asset Management, which disassembles and recycles retired aircraft, including wide-body planes as large as a 747.
