Byhalia woman charged with murder
HOLLY SPRINGS – A Byhalia woman was being held in the Marshall County Jail on Monday on a murder charge, according to Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
Ethel Mae Barksdale, 41, Route 4, Box 557, Byhalia, was being held on a $50,000 bond set at her arraignment Monday, he said.
Barksdale is charged with shooting and killing James Brownlee Jr., 42, Route 4, Byhalia, at about 10 p.m. Saturday night, Dickerson said. The shooting occurred at the Barksdale home, which is located south of the town of Watson off Mississippi Highway 309.
It appears the shooting was the result of an argument between Barksdale, Brownlee and Barksdale’s husband, William Edward Barksdale, who was also shot in the Saturday night incident, he said.
William Barksdale suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh and has been treated and released from a Memphis hospital, Dickerson said. Charges against Ethel Mae Barksdale in connection with that shooting are still pending, he said.
Marshall County coroner Charles Thomas said Brownlee died from multiple gunshot wounds while awaiting an airlift to a Memphis hospital. His body was flown to Jackson where an autopsy was performed at the state Crime Lab.
