Caledonia leaders say they'll pray after tiff

CALEDONIA — It was clear at Caledonia’s city council meeting this week that small-town politics can generate some big-time hurt feelings.

Alderman Bill Darnell said during Tuesday night’s meeting that he didn’t appreciate remarks Mayor George Gerhart had made in a local newspaper, the Columbus Packet.

Darnell says he’s upset that the mayor referred to him in print as a “eunuch.”

The councilman said he’d pray for the mayor of the 950-person town, and the mayor said he’d pray for everybody at the council meeting.

The Commercial Dispatch reports the dispute started when Darnell’s wife complained at a council meeting last month that the mayor had not supported her husband to become second vice president of the Mississippi Municipal League.
