STARKVILLE – After adding 110 jobs in the past month, the Sitel call center is adding another 300 full-time jobs by the end of October.
On Thursday, the Nashville-based company said it would provide technical, customer care, concierge and sales workers to support long-term contracts it had signed with a financial services provider, a retailer and an electronics manufacturer.
The companies’ names were not revealed in a press release.
Jon Maynard, president and CEO of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, said he was happy to hear the news.
“They had laid off several hundred people earlier this year, but there is an ebb and flow with jobs because of the nature of their business,” Maynard said.
The company, which has been in Starkville since 2000, laid off more than 250 people in January.
“The people who work there are for customer service needs and when the contracts come, they’ll have to hire people,” Maynard explained
So when the contracts expire, workers are let go . But Maynard said Sitel keeps an average of 300 to 400 employees in Starkville.
“We’ll certainly do what we can to help,” he said about the latest announcement.
“Sitel continues to set the standard for technical innovation and customer support excellence for call centers across the globe,” said Starkville Sitel director Kendall Williams in a press release. “These newly-created positions will not only play a key role in deepening Sitel’s footprint and brand appeal across the industry, but also build on our 10 years of success in being a vital part of the vibrant Starkville community.”
The company claims to be the top global call center provider, with 140 locations in 27 countries and 60,000 employees. The company is privately held, majority owned by Onex Corp. of Canada.
