TUPELO – Former Tupelo High School choral director Calvin Ellis will address the district’s school board at 10 a.m. today at the Hancock Leadership Center.
Ellis’ statement essentially serves as a closing argument to the hearing appealing his termination. That hearing was held over 10 days during December, January and February. Today’s address will be given in executive session because it includes student, faculty, administrator and others’ names.
The school board will make a determination about whether or not Ellis will be reinstated to his job. Board attorney Otis Tims said that ruling could come within the next week.
“The board is moving as rapidly as it can, with concern for fairness,” Tims said, noting that board members recently received a 2,400-page transcript from the hearing.
The board met at the school district office on Sunday to discuss the testimony from the hearing.
