House GOP leader Boehner to stump for Nunnelee
– U.S. House Republican leader John Boehner will be in DeSoto County today to campaign for congressional candidate Alan Nunnelee.
The Nunnelee campaign said Wednesday that U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker will appear with Boehner and Nunnelee in Southaven.
Nunnelee is challenging Democrat Travis Childers, who has represented Mississippi’s 1st District since a special election in mid-2008, called after Wicker moved from the House to the Senate.
Poll shows Nunnelee in lead over Childers
– A poll by the congressional newspaper The Hill shows Republican 1st District challenger Alan Nunnelee leading incumbent Democrat Travis Childers by five points.
The Hill 2010 Midterm Election Poll, conducted by Penn Schoen Berland Oct. 9-17, shows Nunnelee ahead 44 percent to 39 percent, with 12 percent of likely voters undecided.
It also shows Alan Nunnelee winning among independent, male and older voters. Childers leads among women and younger voters.
The survey consisted of 603 phone interviews among likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.
Lee County Circuit Clerk’s office to open Saturdays
– TUPELO – The Lee County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be open for absentee voting from 8 a.m. until noon on the next two Saturdays – Oct. 23 and Oct. 30. The deadline for absentee voting in the Nov. 2 elections is noon Oct. 30.
