KOSCIUSKO — Three candidates have qualified so far to run in a Nov. 6 special election for sheriff of Attala County.
The Star Herald reports that the candidates are
Martin Roby, Billy J. “Joey” Halderman and Tim Nail.
The special election is to fill the unexpired term of William Lee, who died in May. Lee had been sheriff since 2002.
Roby ran for the office in 2007 and lost to Lee in a runoff.
Nail has served as interim sheriff since Lee’s death on May 7.
Halderman was defeated by Lee last August.
The qualifying deadline is Sept. 7. The special election will be held Nov. 6.
