TUPELO – Carlock Kia is back in business, but its location is temporary.
Having reopened in the former location of its sister dealership, Carlock Toyota, on South Gloster Street, the Kia franchise will be moving again in 12 to 18 months.
“We’re looking to build next to our Nissan dealership” on North Gloster Street, said Clay Carlock, whose Carlock Automotive group includes Kia, Nissan and Toyota dealerships in the All-America City.
Until then, the South Korean-made Kia cars and SUVs will be sold from a newly-renovated showroom.
Bobby Moore, general sales manager for Carlock Kia, said former customers have clamored for their return. The dealership closed its old location on North Gloster Street three years ago.
“We’re back by popular demand,” he said. “We were handling maintenance at the Toyota store but any warranty work had to be done in Memphis, and our customers were asking when we’d be back. Clay was looking for an opportunity, and now we’re back.”
Moore has been in the automotive business for more than 20 years and joined the Carlock group late last year.
He said Kia has remodeled nearly every model in its lineup to appeal to a wide range of customers.
“We just want people to come and see us,” he said. “We’re looking to do bigger and better things.”
