TUPELO – Carver Elementary had a 10-minute lockdown during dismissal on Tuesday after witnesses reported hearing four loud pops.
School officials called the Tupelo Police Department around 2:45 p.m. The police investigated and determined all was clear, and dismissal was resumed as normal around 3.
“The school resource officers and Tupelo Police Department responded quickly and were of great assistance,” said Tupelo Deputy Superintendent Diana Ezell. “No one was in any danger.”
The district administrative team also came to the school, as soon as they got the call, Ezell said.
During the lockdown, dismissal was halted, and students and teachers went inside the school.
Carver is a kindergarten to second-grade school located on North Green Street.
