TUPELO – CATCH Kids Executive Director Valerie Long often hears stories about the impact Dr. Ed Ivancic has had on the community.
People tell her about a time he helped heal one of their children or about the care he showed during the process.
Long hopes that many of these people will be in Fairpark on Sept. 22, when the nonprofit honors Ivancic, its board president and one of its founders.
The event will be the annual fundraiser for CATCH Kids, which provides medical and dental services to needy children.
Long said the event is not just for the doctor’s colleagues.
“This seemed like an appropriate time to honor him,” she said, adding that the event is not just for Ivancic’s colleagues.
Heavy hors d-oeuvres will be served, and there will be a silent auction. Three speakers will highlight some of Ivancic’s achievements: Linda Southward, who is from the Mississippi State University Social Science Research Center and who has worked with Ivancic at the American Academy of Pediatrics; Dr. Charles Robertson, who works with Ivancic at North Mississippi Pediatrics; and Long.
Ivancic joined with several community advocates to help form CATCH Kids in 1998 to prevent needy kids from falling through the cracks and not receiving quality medical services. He’s since volunteered countless hours in the organization’s clinics.
“It has really meant a lot to see how it has grown from a few clinics, and to know that the need is there,” Ivancic said. “You always wonder what good are we doing with anything in life, and this is something you can see that it does have an impact.”
The event begins at 6 p.m. at Fairpark’s Elkin Place. For information, call (662) 377-2194.
