Cemetery under state control sold to bidder

JACKSON — The secretary of state’s office says a judge has approved the sale of a cemetery that had been placed into receivership.

A news release from Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann’s office says Chancellor Vicki Barnes ordered Green Acres Cemetery in Vicksburg sold Thursday to Harry Carter Sharp.

Sharp has been operating Green Acres since he was named receiver in 2009. His bid on the property included a $135,000 cash payment and $51,000 in facilities improvements.

Last month, a Prentiss County chancery judge approved the sale of four other cemeteries that had been placed into receivership. The cemeteries were under state control after an investigation revealed mismanagement in their operations.
