100th birthday Sunday
James V. (Buster) Christian will be honored with a 100th birthday party from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at AvonLea Retirement Community. He invites his friends and family to celebrate the occasion with him.
Christian, who turned 100 on Tuesday, was born in 1909 to Howard and Della Christian of the Auburn community. He is the only survivor of his eight siblings. He celebrated 50 years of marriage to Olis Pierce Christian and they had two sons, James William Christian (deceased) and Samuel Pierce Christian. After Mrs. Christian’s death, Christian married Marie Sims Robbins, and they were together 23 years until her death in 2000.
Christian has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He experienced the hardships of the Great Depression of the 1930s and the tornado that struck Tupelo and his home community of Auburn in 1936. He farmed while caring for his family during World War II, became a house painter after the war and has been retired from public work for 30-plus years.
Clean living and devotion to God and family have contributed to his longevity. He continues to enjoy his many friends at AvonLea.
