Citizens encouraged to greet deploying troops

Citizens are encouraged to come to the Tupelo airport Tuesday morning to greet troops leaving for a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Aberdeen’s 223rd Engineer Combat Battalion is expected to arrive at the airport around 9 Tuesday morning, and the 223rd Engineer Battalion from West Point will be shortly behind them.
There will be several U.S. flags on hand for people to wave, or they can bring their own flags. Individuals are asked to make two lines between the street near the airport terminal and the gate leading to the tarmac.
The troops will also join the Houston’s 288th Sapper Company, which left on Saturday. They will be deployed for a year.
