Class 1A: Durant (13-0) at Okolona (12-2)

– This week: Durant is one win away from returning to the Class 1A state championship game, where the Tigers lost last season to Mt. Olive. Durant reached the semifinals with a 42-0 win last week against Vardaman. Okolona, a 12-7 winner over Smithville last week, has won nine straight games.
– Recent history: Durant defeated Okolona 28-12 last season in the opening round of the playoffs.
– Durant: The Tigers’ head coach is former Mississippi State star quarterback William “Sleepy” Robinson. … Durant has given up just one offensive TD this season, a 1-yard run by Shaw QB Kevin Hill in an Oct. 1 game. “That’s amazing,” Durant defensive assistant Richard Whigham said. … QB William Robinson, the son of the coach, has completed 44 of 109 passes for 888 yards, 17 TD, 4 INT. … RB Cortez Frizell has rushed for 1,639 yards, 38 TD. … RB, backup QB David Hogsett has rushed for 906 yards and 9 TD. … LB Antwan Bailey is one of four backers with 100-plus tackles. He has recorded a team-high 164.
– Okolona: RB/LB Martavious Ford can play any position. He’s rushed for 579 yards and scored 9 TD. He’s also recorded a team-high 86 tackles playing LB and end. “He could put his hand down and play tackle if we needed him to,” coach Calvin Aldridge said. “He plays quarterback, running back and tight end on offense. He catches the ball really well. He’s a 240-pounder who can travel.” … RB Fred Ward rushed for 143 yards against Smithville. He has 734 for the season. … QB Jordan Ivy has rushed for 726 yards and passed for 628. … LB Casey Gathing led the Cheiftains with 16 tackles vs. Smithville. … DE Victor Cunningham is the team’s leader in sacks with 10.
