College Board says students numbers up

JACKSON — Fall enrollment figures are up at seven public universities with only Mississippi Valley State University showing a drop compared to 2010.

Overall, state College Board officials say preliminary figures show an overall increase of 4,000 students, or 5.2 percent over fall of 2010.

College Board officials say the figures represent the largest single-year increase in enrollment.

School by school fall 2011 figures:

— Alcorn State University, 4,391 students, up 19.3 percent

— Delta State University, 4,624, up 6.9 percent

— Jackson State, 8,903, up 2.5 percent

— Mississippi State, 20,424, up 4 percent.

— Mississippi University for Women, 2,663, up 2.9 percent

— Mississippi Valley State, 2,526, down 4.2 percent

— University of Mississippi, 18,196, up 6.5 percent

— University of Southern Mississippi, 16,506, up 4.6 percent
