Columbus youth seriously hurt in hunting accident

A Columbus student is in serious condition after being shot in the face in what is being called a hunting accident Sunday afternoon in Noxubee County.

Spencer Perkins, 17, was dove hunting on family property near Brooksville when he reportedly dropped his shotgun causing the weapons to discharge.

The Heritage Academy junior was hunting with his twin brother who immediately called for help on a cellphone.

Perkins was airlifted to University Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson in critical condition.

Perkins has family in this area and he was the focus of prayer at several area churches Wednesday night.
