STARKVILLE — Starkville restaurants have gotten final permission to begin selling wine and liquor on Sundays.
The state Tax Commission approved the new sales hours on Wednesday, nearly a month after the proposal got the initial OK from Starkville aldermen.
The change takes effect immediately, with Sunday sales allowed 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Tax Commission spokeswoman Kathy Waterbury says Starkville residents for and against the Sunday sales sent “an impressive stack” of letters about the issue.
Restaurants, grocery stores and convenience stores can start selling beer and wine coolers on Sundays later this month. In August, aldermen voted to allow those Sunday sales.
The city regulates hours for beer sales, but the Tax Commission regulates liquor and wine.
