JACKSON — The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear the appeal from Mississippi death row inmate Rodney Gray.
The justices did not comment on Monday’s decision.
Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood has said he’d ask the Mississippi Supreme Court for an April 27 execution date after the U.S. Supreme Court made a decision on the appeal.
Gray was sentenced to death for the 1994 rape and murder of 79-year-old Grace Blackwell of Louin.
Hood asked March 21 for an April 20 execution date for Robert Simon Jr. The Mississippi court didn’t immediately act on that request.
The U.S. Supreme Court could also soon decide the appeal of Benny Joe Stevens. Hood has said he’d ask for a May 4 execution date for Stevens, if his appeal is denied.
