Construction continues at Lake Lamar Bruce

SALTILLO – Construction crews are moving slightly ahead of schedule on the new dam at Lake Lamar Bruce.
Tyler Stubbs, project manager for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, said as long as it stays dry, they should remain ahead of schedule.
The contract with Ja Marc Construction Co. of Oxford is ongoing through February. Once the dam is finished, MDWFP will wait until the lake begins to fill with water and stock it with fish.
After the fish have had two years to spawn, the lake will open for fishing.
“The improvements are to the dam’s structure and then the fisheries crews have been adding lots of fish attractors and deepening the shoreline to get ride of the algae problem we’ve had in the past,” Stubbs said. “They’re also adding a few new areas for people to be able to fish.”
A smaller stocked pond will be added to the side of the lake to allow for bank fishing and fishing rodeos. The size of the pond will make it possible for controlled restocking of different fish combinations.
The lake itself will contain bass, blue-gill, red-ear, channel catfish and triploid crappie.
