Contract awarded for arena roof work

TUPELO – The Tupelo Coliseum Commission voted Monday to spend more than $500,000 on a new roof for the BancorpSouth Arena.
Accurate Roofing won the project with a low bid of $519,889.
“That is quite a bit under what we had estimated,” said Todd Hunt, arena director. “We’re quite happy to see that.”
The highest bid came in at about $650,000, which is what officials had estimated before seeking bids.
Hunt said the low bid was examined by architects at The McCarty Company and lawyers for the city. Accurate Roofing has worked on Tupelo City Hall and other city buildings, Hunt said.
The work affects the warehouse portion of the building, including meeting rooms, office space and dressing rooms. The project should take up to 120 days.
