Cooper Tire strike in China appears over

NEW DELHI – The India Financial Times said the strike at Cooper Tire’s joint venture plant in China appears to be over.

In July, the 5,000 workers at Cooper-Chengshan Tire plant in Rongcheng went on strike to protest the proposed $2.5 billion merger of India-based Apollo Tyres and Findlay, Ohio-based Cooper Tire.

Cooper also employs 1,300 people at its plant in Tupelo.

But the Financial Times reports indicates the strike is over, saying Cooper “has clarified that production employees at its facility in China have returned to the factory and the protest is over.”
