Corinth to add disc golf course to area offerings

CORINTH – The Crossroads Regional Park in Corinth soon will have a nine-hole disc golf course available for its patrons.

Park Director Todd Witt told Alcorn County supervisors and Corinth city board members during his annual budget request for the jointly owned facility that installing the new feature will not have any new cost because the work is being done by in-house workers.

The sport is growing quickly in popularity, Witt said, and the course is being installed near Pavilion 1 and winds behind the tennis courts and on property to the south toward Droke Road.

Disc golf is played on a course similar to traditional golf, but players use a flying disc – usually a Frisbee – instead of balls and clubs.

Tupelo recently hosted the Southern Nationals Amateur Disc Golf Championship Tournament that attracted about 200 players from throughout the Southeast.

A nine-hole disc golf course can be created on as little as five acres of land, while a championship-caliber 18-hole course requires 30 to 40 acres, according to the Professional Disc Golf Association.

The Corinth course will join about 20 others of various sizes available throughout Northeast Mississippi.

Witt said the course should be completed by fall.
