CORINTH – A decade ago, texting wasn’t even a part of the vocabulary.
Now text messaging is rampant, and the Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau plans to intertwine it and promotion of National Tourism Week with a kickoff in May.
“It’s an experiment to see if the younger market is even interested,” said CVB Executive Director Kristy White.
The first texting venture the CVB tried was a contest for the chili cookoff, and there were almost 200 responses, she said.
People will be invited to text 59925 to be signed up with the CVB for updates on events like the Green Market, Slugburger Festival and other special events. They’ll receive a welcome message back on their cell phones.
“For a situation like last weekend when so many events were canceled because of the weather, that’s the kind of change we’d be able to let our text subscribers know about,” White said.
